Well, indeed this year’s debate team is, overall, better than last year’s. We’ve won rounds 1 and 2 of the Dato’ Wira Cup (compared to losing round 1 last year) with Aysha, Fatin and Syaheera on the pad. Me and Sara filled in as subs (subs are the coolest) but actually we were underbriefed for the second round. Yeah, I”ll give it to you straight, we really thought we were going in in the second round. But hey it’s alright, it’s nice seeing juniors trash people elder than them. Bukit Jelutong came with FaisalTheMegatClone, Megan and Tan during the Corporal Punishment debate and they lost eventhough they we’re on the affirmitive side. I don’t see being on the negative side as a pro in this motion, but we won anyway! Aysha got Tan during her POI interjection,
Tan : … parents should be responsible for taking care of their children and…
*POI*
Aysha : So why aren’t parents responsible for caning their children then since you say they *are* responsible for them?
Tan : There are reasons as to why the government allows discipline teachers to cane students..
Aysha : (In a seperate POI attempt) What are the reasons then?
Tan : Denied.
LOL! I could have sworn me and Sara we’re snickering devilishly at the corner at this dude, daring to answer a POI that way
Well, Fatin rejected all of her POIs and we were worried we might lose because of that, because other than good english, BJ had very little solid points. Plus Faisal was quite rude with his facial impression, excessive use of the words misled and opponents and ‘dog chasing tail’ statement, and Megan with her standing on the bench case. Megan was the best speaker.
So we left for Section 7 later in the afternoon, somehow I knew Syaheera and Fatin were going to push for a double win in a day for their first debates, they chose to go in and Fatin dropped half way. Sort of like the Adel case where he had many many points and much confidence in him but about 3 minutes into his speech he jerked and gave a very unpleasant ending and went to his seat. We did lose. Megat can agree with me. Thankfully though, Section 7 chose the Negative side of Proficiency in English which was the side that had little advantage, AND they couldn’t understand Aysha’s point right. We would have lost if they understood what Aysha meant with the saree’s in China? and water bottle examples. They kept on going on and on about it saying it doesn’t make sense when it’s merely an example! So yeah, I met lots of old friends at Section 7, including Kaamesh the humorous prefect and JazliTheShort.
All in all, I think the trio did a splendid job especially in round 2, Syaheera was very very confident and clear with her rebutal and Aysha had rock solid points and POIs. Fatin, well, I don’t really know why she gagged but she had some good points too, if only she could have been a bit clearer. Syaheera, I’m assuming is now the most famous debater in SMKSSAAS being the first and only one to win two debates in a day as a 3rd speaker and it’s her first time, so much props to ya and if I may say so myself, Ezra couldn’t have done a better job.
But, as a final note, if you want to be famous in a debate team, apply to be a SUB. and Aysha likes bum-bums. That’s buttocks by the way, according to the Divanesh Advance Learner’s Dictionary.
